Rozafa Castle stands on a hill above Shkodër and offers some of the most impressive views in northern Albania. The fortress has Illyrian, Roman and medieval origins and is closely connected to the famous legend of Rozafa, a woman sacrificed in the castle’s foundations.
Visitors can walk through stone walls, ruins and courtyards while enjoying panoramic views over Shkodër Lake, the Buna and Drin rivers and the surrounding mountains. Inside the complex you’ll also find a small museum and a church turned into a mosque.
Rozafa Castle is an essential stop for history lovers and photographers, and it is easily accessible by car or taxi from the city centre.
